Sophie was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. She studied dance from the age of 6 at the Bentley Potter school of dance under the Royal Academy of Dance Ballet curriculum and performed in the school's company productions for 7 years. At the age of 18 she fully recognized her love for the creative arts and began her journey to finding her place in this world applying for a Foundation degree at the University for Creative Arts in the UK where she specialized in textile design. Alongside this study she began dancing with the Phoenix Performing Arts school where she danced ballet, contemporary, hip hop and modern. Here she was encouraged to also pursue a career in dance. Knowing her love for both visual and performing arts Sophie chose to complete a Bachelor in Creative Arts at Bathspa University where she majored in both Mixed-media Textiles and Dance and completed in 2020. Coming from such a small island has encouraged Navarro to dig deeper into her self of identity and this theme is often present in her multi-media work. Her work is a constant conversation between movement and image, often switching between movement to photography to textile back to movement . Her broad cultural and artistic background gives her an eye for excitement and her work is evolving with every new life experience.
